Tanja Maritsa

New Album 'Fragile'

Taking its title from the Sting classic, 'Fragile', Tanja's new album is about how delicate and precious life is and takes us on a journey from jazz to folk and world music.

Delighted by the response from her first album 'Child in My Heart', Tanja was eager to get back into the studio and start recording her second album ‘Fragile’.

Fragile includes 10 tracks of Tanjas own material and two covers. It opens with the light hearted jazzy chanson Single ‘Live for Today’ and takes us on a journey of life and love from jazz (‘No More the Blues’, ‘Wont You Dance’) to folk (‘The Other Side of the World’, ‘La Catrina’) and world music (‘Fragile’, ’In Love Again’ ‘Libertango’), ending with the beautiful melancholic duet ‘Fading Grace’ with pianist Gwilym Simcock.

Tanja has again teamed up with renouned producer arranger Richard Niles http://www.richardniles.com, who has been a fixture of the London music scene for over 30 years (Paul McCartney, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, (and the list goes on..) and is backed by some superb musicians : keyboard artist Richard Cottle (David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Trevor Horn, Alan Parsons, Eric Clapton....), bassist Sam Burgess ('a stalwart of the UK jazz scene'.......whose 'relentlessly driving bass lines have been heard accompanying the likes of Bob James, Billy Kilson, Gwyneth Herbert, John Dankworth, The BBC Big Band and Robbie Williams') guitarist James Graydon (whose session credits include Westlife, Belinda Carlisle, Emma Bunton, ..) and percussionist Gary O'Toole (Big Chief , Ewan McGregor/Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue ) .

Special guest appearances also include Naseer Shamma one of the most esteemed and prolific Oud players in the world, http://www.naseershamma.com, and the masterful composer and pianist Gwilym Simcock, http://www.gwilymsimcock.com

See the Media page for some recent reviews.

All proceeds from the single 'Fragile' will go to the Tareek Al Zahuur Community (TACZ), dedicated to helping children who have suffered during the war in Iraq (See 'Helping Children' page).

'On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are how fragile we are'
